Audience Research (Questionnaire results)

Audience Research - Questionnaire Analysis

To get a great understanding of what my target audience wants, this questionnaire was carried out to get an idea of what sort of music video should be created. Of those that answered the questionnaire, 45% were male and 55% were female with more than a majority of those that answered were aged 17-19. 82% enjoys watching music videos with reasons such as: "They elude the message in the song," "The visuals in the music video can be really good to watch" and  "The excitement within the music video fulfills my enjoyment." Most of the response suggested the visuals within the music video plays an important aspect to the video, suggesting I should be very precise with the editing of the video as well as the filming, in order for the audience's needs to be fulfilled. The narrative is also said to be a key reason why people enjoy the video. Careful planning will be put into the narrative in order for the  audience to be engaged.

55% of the people that answered watches music videos 1-3 times per week. This suggest I must carefully construct my music video as my target audience, are well aware on what a good music video is considering they watch a great amount of music videos per week. Another result that was surprising was, 55% disagreed with the idea of a whip pan being used in the music video. In most POP videos, a whip pan is used quite frequently to get a smooth, exciting transition to the next scene however, the results suggest my target audience are no longer fascinated with that camera movement being used therefore, other camera movements that are unique will be used as the target audience may want to see something different in a music video.

After the question asking the most important aspect in a music video, 45% has said the Narrative plays an important role in the video with the 'setting' and 'editing'both being the second important aspect (18%). In some cases this was not expected as I thought editing and shot types would be the most important aspect in this situation considering, the audience are said to be captivated by the visuals within the music video. Furthermore, this helped me understand how important the narrative is for the younger generation in order for them to enjoy the music video. However, later in the questionnaire 55% prefer  a simple music video to an eccentric video. This suggest the audience prefer a video that is simple to understand rather than an unconventional music video, possibly due to the idea of being harder for them to interpret  the video.

POP music is seemed to be the main music genre the younger generation are interested in (45%- POP). A POP music video is therefore the right choice for our audience however, from this questionnaire, I have come to a conclusion on what shots will be added in order for the video to be simple, but with a little excitement with use of narrative and editing in order the audience have an optimal level of satisfaction.

Research - Creative ideas on the lighting and vibrant colours I could use

Research - Creative ideas / shots that could be included in the POP music video

Movavi is a video editor software that has been used by myself to edit a short clip showing three shots that could be used in my POP music video. The idea was to film a couple of shots to practice my filming skills as well as to get a rough idea on whether or not to include it. A whip pan shot has been included as I believe it would be appropriate to use in my video  to create a high intensity to fulfill excitement within the audience. The smooth change in shot would allow to change the setting more easily. The low angle pan shot may be used as it creates a dramatic effect on the object its focusing on. It also establishes the setting to ensure the audience can familiarize themselves it to engage them to the video. Zoom in and out shots are quite unique in showing importance of the character.

Deconstruction (POP video): Post Malone - Congratulations ft. Quavo (analysis of an existing music video)

Wednesday, 6 September 2017

Personally, this has to be one of my favourite songs as well as the music video, especially this year. The song itself is remarkable with the beat of the music and the lyrics used being good however, the music video it self is quite unique and different to others for which I like. The video uses a variety of shots, telling us a story from different views as well as enabling us to get better idea of whats going on. The shots are mainly taken in one place however, small shots of the person are shown else where contrasting to the main location. The music played in the background is not sad but can be seen as calm making us feel content. The location it self also gives us a positive feel the artist him self smiling in some shots giving off a warm atmosphere. Overall, the music videos attracts my attention through out the song due to the content within, fully engaging my self to it.
